Medical Director Gail M. Wynn, MD, FACS

Gail M. Wynn, MD, FACS is a board certified general surgeon with a special focus on weight loss surgery and advanced laparoscopic surgery. She is co-founder of the Christiana Institute of Advanced Surgery (CHRIAS) and has performed over 2,000 weight loss surgeries. Along with her partners, Drs. Irgau and Peters, she is committed to providing excellent surgical care and a comprehensive surgical weight loss program in a caring, compassionate environment.

Dr. Wynn did her medical training at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine where she graduated with honors. She completed her surgical training at the Medical Center of Delaware, and has authored numerous publications and academic presentations. Dr. Wynn was voted one of Delaware’s Top Docs for Abdominal surgery from 2007 to 2011 by Delaware Today magazine. She was also voted Delaware’s Top Bariatric Surgeon from 2011 to 2015.

Isaias Irgau, MD, FACS, FRCS (Ed)

Dr. Isaias Irgau is president and co-founder of the Christiana Institute of Advanced Surgery (CHRIAS). He has extensive experience with minimally invasive weight loss surgery. In conjunction with his associate, Dr. Gail Wynn, he was a member of the team who was the first to perform the LAP-BAND® procedure and the first to firmly establish the laparoscopic approach to Roux-En-Y gastric bypass in the state of Delaware. Dr. Irgau has personally performed over 2,000 bariatric procedures with excellent results. He and his associate, Dr. Wynn, - established the Bariatric Surgery Program in two of Delaware’s leading medical centers – Christiana Hospital and Saint Francis Hospital. With the addition of Dr. Michael Peters Jr. to CHRIAS, they eventually led the two hospitals to earn the prestigious designation of MBSAQIP Accredited Comprehensive Center in Bariatric Surgery.

Dr. Irgau graduated from Bristol University Medical School in England and has a double fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the American College of Surgeons. He is board certified in General Surgery with the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Irgau is author of numerous publications and academic presentations and was elected Young Surgeon of the Year by the Delaware Chapter of the American College of Surgeons in 2006.

Michael Peters Jr., MD, FACS, FASMBS

Michael Peters Jr., MD, FACS, FASMBS is the Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery for Christiana Care Health System. He is a board certified general surgeon with fellowship training in advanced laparoscopic surgery and bariatric surgery.

Dr. Peters received his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson Medical College and completed his general surgery training at the Pinnacle Health Hospitals in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He completed a clinical and research fellowship in advanced laparoscopy and bariatric surgery at the Michael DeBakey Surgery Center of Excellence at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas and joined the Christiana Institute of Advanced Surgery on completion of his fellowship.

Dr. Peters was the first surgeon in the state of Delaware to perform a sleeve gastrectomy procedure for weight loss. Along with his partners, he is committed to providing excellent surgical care and a comprehensive surgical weight loss program in a caring, compassionate environment.

George Ibrahim, MD

Dr. George Ibrahim, MD is a board-certified general surgeon who is fellowship trained in bariatric surgery and minimally invasive surgery.

After earning his medical degree from Ain-Shams University Faculty of Medicine in Cairo, Egypt, Dr. Ibrahim completed a general surgery residency at Easton Hospital in Easton, Pennsylvania. Dr. Ibrahim went on to complete his fellowship in minimally invasive surgery and bariatric surgery at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, New York. Upon completion of his fellowship, Dr. Ibrahim returned to Easton Hospital to practice, until joining the surgeons and staff of CHRIAS in November of 2017. He is a member of several professional societies, including the Society of Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) and the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Ibrahim has a special interest in teaching and medical education. During his time at Easton Hospital, he was awarded numerous faculty teaching awards, including the faculty appreciation award for excellence in clinical teaching and teacher of the year award. Dr. Ibrahim was born in Egypt and speaks fluent English and Arabic. His interests outside of medicine include travel, history, soccer and watching old films.
