Did you know that 3 in 4 nurses are victims of verbal or physical abuse?
Representative Helene Keeley, D-Wilmington South, recently introduced House
Bill 214, a bill that will classify assaults against nurses while performing
work-related duties in the state of Delaware as a second degree offense.
Assaults against other first responders in Delaware, such as police officers,
paramedics, and firefighters, are already classified as second-degree
assaults and are punishable up to eight years. Nurses have not had this
protection by the law until now. We are so glad our state is finally recognizing
nurses and the vital care they give to their patients. Nurses do not deserve
to be assaulted for providing necessary care to patients. House Bill 214
is a step in the right direction for nurses. The bill was officially signed
into law on June 28.
Saint Francis Healthcare is proud to announce that Delaware Governor Jack
Markell and Representative Helene Keeley will be visiting Saint Francis
Healthcare on September 15th from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. There will be an official ceremony and signing of
House Bill 214 during their visit.
