Outpatient Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation
Top Physical Therapy Program in Wilmington
The closely monitored care you receive in the hospital is called “acute”
care. Acute care typically only lasts anywhere from a few days to a couple
of weeks. This is usually enough time for patients to recover from the
most immediate concerns of their medical condition and return home. Being
released from the hospital, however, does not necessarily mean you have
fully recovered. Injuries and illnesses can often result in long-term
effects that require an extended recovery period. Rehabilitation and physical
therapy are a means to continue your treatment with medical professionals
as you overcome physical limitations and improve your quality of life.
Physical Therapy at Saint Francis Healthcare
Our physical therapy program is built on the unique needs of the patient.
We focus on therapeutic exercise, patient education, physical agents and
manual therapy. During your first session, the rehabilitation team will
assess your condition and design a therapy program that addresses the
more debilitating effects of your condition. Once we have a better grasp
of your situation and goals, your treatment can begin.
Rehabilitation may involve exercise, diet creation, relaxation techniques
and other activities that will be supervised by a knowledgeable physical
therapist. The goal of the program is to both help you recover and learn
how to continue these activities on your own so that you can improve your
health and wellness independently.
Our approach to physical therapy and rehabilitation is unique for several reasons:
- We limit patient intake to ensure intensive one-on-one care with current
participants
- We stay with the patient throughout their entire session, every session
- Every patient receives a one-hour evaluation before a treatment plan is created
- We treat orthopaedic conditions and neurological disorders (vestibular
disorders/dizziness, post-stroke, lower leg weakness, Guillain-Barré
Syndrome, etc.)
- We assist patients who suffer from impaired balance
- We provide education on fall prevention
The members of Saint Francis Healthcare’s outpatient physical therapy
team are among the best in their field. We have therapists with credentials
in vestibular rehab, functional movement, and the McKenzie Method.
