Dialysis

If you or a loved one have suffered from kidney failure, it is likely that you will be in need of dialysis for the foreseeable future, possibly the rest of your life. Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic offers quality inpatient dialysis that you can access in case of an emergency.

How does dialysis work?

It is the kidneys’ job to separate waste from the body and regulate chemicals. Kidney disease prevents the kidneys from performing these functions and can be fatal if left untreated. There is no cure for chronic kidney disease, but if a patient is eligible for a transplant then a surgeon can replace the diseased kidney with a healthy one. Kidney transplants can be difficult to come by and not everyone will be able to receive one. In order to keep patients with kidney disease alive, dialysis was created.

Dialysis is a procedure where the patient is connected to an IV and the dialysis device performs the function of your kidneys for them. You will require regular dialysis treatments so that waste does not accumulate in the body and lead to further health complications. A typical dialysis schedule is three sessions a week for four hours at a time.
