Summer is the perfect time to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors.
We suggest taking advantage of the warm weather to get your recommended
daily exercise in. Exercising outside will allow you to get out of the
gym and explore what New Castle County has to offer! Here are a few of
our favorite outdoor exercises:
Biking is a great type of outdoor exercise that is easy on your joints.
You get the same cardiovascular benefits of other aerobic exercises while
biking. Biking gives you the opportunity to explore your community and
exercise at the same time. We recommend inviting friends and family to
go biking with you. It is fun to bike with a group of people, and it’s
also a rewarding feeling to know that you and your group have worked to
better your fitness together!
Not only is swimming an awesome workout, it’s a good way to cool
off over summer, too! Like biking, swimming is easy on your joints. It
allows you to exert yourself while not putting stress on your joints and
keeping your body cool. If you’re not a fan of swimming laps, there
are other ways to exercise in the water. We recommend enrolling in a water
exercise class at your local pool to get trained on the best water exercise
moves for your body.
Yoga has many health benefits and is an excellent way to exercise outside
this summer. It is a stress reliever and pain reliever. It can also lower
your resting heart rate, which helps to increase endurance during exercise.
Grab a yoga mat and head to the park for some peaceful and destressing
yoga this summer!
Biking, swimming and yoga are all great exercises for obtaining optimum
physical performance after an injury. Contact Saint Francis Healthcare’s Outpatient Physical Therapy
team for recommendations on other exercises you can do to reach your best
physical performance possible.
