Jun 13, 2019 Saint Francis Healthcare Earns Accreditation for High-Quality Bariatric Care Wilmington, Del. (June 11, 2019) — Saint Francis Healthcare recently re-earned a Comprehensive Center accreditation for bariatric surgery from the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). The Comprehensive Center designation recognizes the hospital’s commitment to providing safe and high-quality care to patients of metabolic and bariatric surgery. Saint Francis has maintained this accreditation since 2007 and is the first Bariatric Center of Excellence, recognized by the Surgical Review Corporation, in Delaware. “Metabolic or bariatric surgery is a major event in a patient’s weight-loss journey, and we’re proud to help our patients take that life-changing next step toward better health,” said Dan Sinnott, President of Saint Francis Healthcare. “Our expert multidisciplinary team guides patients to help them stay on track to not only lose weight, but also achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle.” “This accreditation emphasizes our commitment to offering our community a great surgical experience,” said Gail Wynn, MD, FACS, Medical Director of the Bariatric Surgery Center at Saint Francis Healthcare. “Thanks to our state-of-the-art equipment and some of the most experienced surgeons in the state, we offer our patients a personalized process to guide them from pre-surgical education and preparation through surgery and beyond for ultimate weight-loss success.” Currently, nearly one in three Delaware residents are obese. The bariatric and metabolic surgery program at Saint Francis helps obese patients within the community live healthier lifestyles by providing high-quality, patient-centered care before, during and after their weight-loss surgery. To earn this accreditation, hospitals must regularly maintain specific physical resources, human resources and industry-best practices, and report these outcomes to the MBSAQIP database.
