The Cancer Care Program at St. Francis Hospital offers education on prevention and screening and provides support for those individuals that have been diagnosed with some form of cancer. Did you know that everyone over the age of 50 should be screened for colon cancer? Were you aware that some individuals need to be checked for prostate cancer sooner than others? Do you know what to do if you find a lump in your breast?
There are many reasons why you should have preventive screenings for cancer. There are some cancers that can be found early, when they are most treatable. Detection and prevention are very important. At our Cancer Care Program, we have a dedicated Nurse Navigator that can help you with the questions that you have about screenings and help you get that screening completed. For more information about our Cancer Screening Nurse Navigation, please click here. A diagnosis of cancer can be life changing and very devastating to many individuals. Often the need for more testing, understanding all of the treatments, and getting additional support to cope with all of your medical needs can be very confusing. Part of the Cancer Care Program at St. Francis Hospital is Cancer Care Coordination. The Cancer Care Coordinator can assist you with understanding all of that terminology, give you more insight into the care that you need and help arrange the support services that you may need.
Cancer Outreach and Education and Awareness Our Cancer Care Program can also provide educational information regarding cancer screening and prevention. If you would like to set up an educational session for your organization, please contact Pamela Sayers, Cancer Care Program Assistant at 421.4970. If you need to be screened and are uninsured, you may qualify for the Screening for Life program. This is a state-funded program that provides screening services to qualified individuals. The screenings covered under this program include clinical breast exams, mammograms, Pap smears, prostate care screenings and colon cancer screenings.
